Josh, in Blackpool, shared his own PTSD mental health struggles with Russell, who gave some tips for tackling mental health during lockdown.

He highlighted that access to support is easier than ever now, as many services can be done online, reminding Josh that he is ‘not alone in how you’re feeling’.

Russell highlighted that experiences like Josh’s are the reason he came to TikTok to meditate, which will help us all show the self-compassion and kindness we need to ourselves.

For Russell, the aim of meditation is to find a place of calm, where you can address the thoughts and feelings in your life that trouble you.

Russell’s meditation 101 for beginners included: sit down somewhere comfortable where you won’t be disturbed, close your eyes and note any tension in your body, slowly and without much effort lengthen your breath and gently breathe, staying calm.

He added: feel the awareness in your hands and bring your attention to them, focus on a word or phrase and allow the phrase to sit silently in your body, whenever thoughts stray take it back to the phrase, notice how your body begins to relax and cherish it.

He said that it’s quite natural for other thoughts or feelings to occur, so just allow yourself to be free of self-judgement and the judgement of others.
