Antonia Kidman on the ‘role reversal’ in her marriage during Covid-19

‘It released a huge burden’: Antonia Kidman, 50, reveals the ‘role reversal’ in her marriage to Craig Marran during the coronavirus pandemic

Antonia Kidman says her marriage to Craig Marran has undergone a ‘role reversal’ due to the coronavirus pandemic.

On Tuesday, the journalist-turned-lawyer wrote in her 9Honey column that she’d been going out to work while Craig had been working from home.

‘The consequences of Covid have created a structural change in the way we work and – for our family, anyway – it has released a huge burden,’ she wrote.

Antonia said that after years of staying at home, it’s now Craig who gets to spend more time with their children and look after the house.

‘For us, it has resulted in [a] semi-role reversal. It has been Craig who has been working from home and me who has continued to go into the office,’ she wrote.

‘This means he is able to see the kids off to school in the morning and fix dinner in the evening,’ she added.

‘We still have after-school care for the younger children on the days that I work, but with one of us based at home it really lightens the load.’

Antonia concluded by saying the pandemic had evened out the division of labour in many households, while also offering a good alternative to the office.

In June, Antonia revealed she’d been thinking about adding to her family of six and was considering getting a dog.

She said in a column for 9Honey now that her family was back living in Australia – after almost a decade of living in Singapore where they didn’t have a backyard –  the idea of getting a family pooch was on the cards.

She wrote that the love a dog owner has for their pet ‘seems so unconditional, solid and enormous and I don’t want to go through life without experiencing it’.
