Today host Karl Stefanovic reveals he’s on a health kick after the holidays

As the festive season comes to an end, Today host Karl Stefanovic has revealed he is starting the New Year with a health kick.

During a segment on Nine’s breakfast show on Monday, the 46-year-old and his co-host Allison Langdon interviewed a qualified health coach.

The trio discussed the benefits and drawbacks of powdered proteins and meal-replacement shakes.

Personal goals: As the festive season ends, Today show host Karl Stefanovic’s co-host Alison Langdon has revealed the 46-year-old is on a health kick.

The conversation took a personal turn when Allison, 41, said her colleague was trying look after himself better.

‘I’ve got this question for you, Karl is on a health kick this week, and we’re day two’ she said.

‘We will see how long it lasts. But you’ve had, like, two protein shakes this morning are protein shakes any good?’

The health coach told the pair that meal replacements have their pros and cons.

‘I’ve got to tell you the majority of people – and I don’t know if this is you, Karl – don’t exercise nearly enough have all these powdered proteins,’ she said.

‘The other thing you’ve got to keep in mind is having too much of these protein or meal supplements are going to give you really smelly gas so it’s a very unpleasant side effect.’

Allison then interrupted to say: ‘Think of your colleagues, please!’

Karl is no stranger to a good health kick: in May last year, he vowed to lose 10kg in 10 weeks while interviewing obesity expert Dr Nick Fuller.

Less than three months later, he revealed he’d weighed himself at home that morning and had shed a decent eight kilograms.

The Channel Nine star, who recently became a father for the fourth time, admitted it had been tough finding the time to exercise but said he was feeling ‘great’.

‘In the last couple of weeks it’s been difficult with the baby and all that sort of stuff,’ he said, referring to his youngest daughter, Harper May.

‘It is life getting in the way of it a little bit, but it’s been a fantastic program,’ he added, thanking Dr Fuller for supporting him throughout his journey.

‘It’s been toughest to find the time to exercise.’

Dr Fuller said: ‘It’s been a fun journey with you, but it’s just the start… We will get you to that 90 kilos and keep you there.’

Karl revealed that Dr Fuller’s program, which included a lighter evening meal, had helped him get to sleep quicker and left him feeling more refreshed in the morning.

The father of four acknowledged he did have difficulty about halfway through the 10-week challenge, and found that having a cheat day on Friday was helpful.

‘What really worked for me was being good from Sunday to Friday and then having a bit of a cheat meal on Friday – as long as that doesn’t then bleed into Saturday and Sunday,’ he said.

Karl’s always-supportive co-host praised him for his efforts.

‘I’m very, very proud of you for the last 10 weeks. You’ve worked really hard on this,’ Allison said.
