Tokyo Olympics: Tiny car meet Tiny BUS! Social media goes crazy for match ball delivery

Tiny car meet Tiny BUS! Social media goes crazy for Tokyo Games’ match ball delivery in opening Rugby 7s match… as catapult ‘converts’ through mini posts on its roof to go one better than Euro 2020 version

Just when sports fans thought they had seen the back of Euro 2020‘s ‘Tiny Car’ those watching the Tokyo Olympics were treated to the ‘Tiny Bus’ making an appearance before the Rugby 7s opener.

As hosts Japan prepared to take on Fiji in the first Rugby 7s match of the Games, the match ball was delivered in a less-than-traditional fashion.

If the ‘Tiny Car’ stole the show at football’s European Championships then the ‘Tiny Bus’ went one further, delivering the ball via a conversion off it’s roof to leave viewers in amazement.

‘TINY RUGBY BUS, THIS IS NOT A DRILL,’ one fan wrote.

‘Fans of tiny cars delivering balls to sporting events, rejoice. The Olympics Rugby 7s has you covered,’ another added.

One Twitter user likened Japan’s ‘Tiny Bus’ as the ‘cousin’ to its car compatriot used at Euro 2020.

With no fans in attendance at the Tokyo Stadium it proved a low key affair until the bus appeared.

Volkswagen was behind the stunt at Euro 2020 and they were soon trending on Twitter as fans continued to be amazed by their incredible pre-match stunt.

The car manufacturers were one of the sponsors at this summer’s European Championships, which took place across 11 cities.

Volskwagen’s slogan for the tournament was ‘We Drive Football’ which added a further element of humour during the Stadio Olimpico stunt.

The Olympics own version appeared to have no sponsor behind it and with the clever robotics of a conversation through the posts, many were impressed at the innovation.

Team GB got their Rugby 7s campaign underway on Monday morning against Canada and it proved a commanding 24-0 win.
