Karl Stefanovic takes a swipe at Allison Langdon and his former co-hosts live on Today

Today star Karl Stefanovic took a cheeky dig at Allison Langdon and his former co-hosts live on the show on Wednesday.

The 46-year-old took the swipe as they laughed after watching Tim’s Trivia, where a viewer made a video call into the studio for a quick little game.

During the quiz, the viewer named Steve had to name Karl’s co-host, which he got right.

‘It’s hard to keep up with!’ On Wednesday, Karl Stefanovic shocked his colleagues as he took a swipe at Allison Langdon and his former co-hosts live on Today

‘I do love that Leaning Tower of Pisa [answer],’ Karl said with a laugh, after Steve thought the tower was in Paris.

‘I wouldn’t have got the first question right, today’s date!’ Ally quipped.

Karl also said he wouldn’t have known ‘any of those answers.’

He then took the dig at Ally as she cheekily asked him, ‘do you know your co-host?’

‘Nup… hard to keep up with!’ Karl joked back, shocking their co-stars.

Ally added: ‘We’ll see who it is tomorrow.’

Karl was seemingly referring to the revolving door of co-hosts on the Today show in recent years.

Karl and Ally made their big debut as co-hosts earlier than expected in January last year, as they covered they Australian bushfire crisis at the time.

Karl admitted on air at the time that his early return to the show, which was two days before the scheduled comeback, was not the triumphant start the new-look team was hoping for.

‘It is, as you said, not the start we thought we would have,’ Karl said.

Karl was famously fired from the program in December 2018, after 14 years of hosting the long-running TV show.

His departure was effective immediately, with Channel Nine’s director of news, Darren Wick, saying it was ‘time for him to step off’, as reported by The Guardian.

The announcement came shortly after his wedding to Jasmine Yarbrough, 35, amid growing scrutiny surrounding his personal life.

Shortly afterwards, it was announced Deb Knight and Georgie Gardner would be assuming the roles of hosts of the breakfast TV show.

But their run was short-lived, with the series plummeting to some of its lowest ratings on record.

It was then announced Deb and Georgie would be departing the program, with Karl returning once again alongside Allison.

‘Yes, I am as shocked about this as everyone else. It’s not something that I thought would come up again,’ Karl told The Sydney Morning Herald upon hearing the announcement of his return.

‘I thought my time was up, but then, when I was sounded out about it, it got me thinking. It’s a big job with enormous pressures and I know only too well some of those pitfalls, but it is also without question the best live TV job in Australia.’

Before co-hosting with Ally, Karl was also in the chair alongside Lisa Wilkinson.

The pair co-hosted the show together for ten years.

But she left Nine in October 2017 over a reported gender pay gap dispute.

Lisa was believed to have quit Today because Karl, 46, as her male co-host, was reportedly earning $2million a year with a potential bonus that could take his salary to $3million if ratings were a hit, The Australian wrote in 2017.

Lisa, a former magazine editor, was said to be on a $1.1million a year contract, with Nine only willing to increase the amount to $1.8million, according to The Daily Telegraph.
