Pink talks about her complicated relationship with her mother during a candid interview on The Project

Pink spoke about her sometimes tumultuous relationship with her mother and how it’s impacted her own parenting style during a candid interview on The Project on Wednesday.

The 41-year-old singer confessed her relationship with her mum, Judith ‘Judy’ Moore, has had a ‘good and bad’ effect on her as a parent.

‘My mum worked full-time. She was an ER nurse. She went to school at night… We raised ourselves mostly,’ she explained.

‘She was a single mum and she kicked a**. And she took me to gymnastics and she showed up for my recitals and she’s killed herself to do it all.’

But P!nk – real name Alecia Moore – admitted her relationship with her mother turned ‘terrible’ once she was a teenager.

‘I look at the young years of how much my mum took on and did it without complaint and then I look at the teenage years, so I take inspiration from it and I take warnings from it,’ she continued.

P!nk said that her children’s upbringings have been ‘very different’ from her own.

‘I didn’t grow up with money. No one was famous in my family. I don’t know – I feel we are all putting one foot in front of the other and trying not to trip,’ she added.

The Cover Me In Sunshine hitmaker is a mum to daughter Willow, nine, and son Jameson, four, with her husband of 15 years, Carey Hart.

Speaking in her new documentary, All I Know So Far, P!nk confessed she was apprehensive about becoming a mum because of her troubled relationship with her own mother.

‘I think before I became a parent, I didn’t want to become a parent because I didn’t want the same kind of relationship my mum and I had, and I was terrified of it,’ she revealed.

But P!nk said her mum gave her ‘one of the biggest gifts of my life’ a few years after Willow was born.

'She looked at me with tears in her eyes and she said, "I just never knew that parenting could be this enjoyable until I saw you do it,"' she recounted of her mother

P!nk also paid tribute to her mother with a heartfelt post on Instagram for Mother’s Day: ‘My mama always shows up. That’s the truth. She is relentless with her love, always striving to be better, constantly seeking joy and full of laughter.

‘It’s been a lifetime of exploring what it means to be responsible for each other. Accountable to each other. Not perfect, ever. Just curious, and forgiving.’
