Delta Goodrem explains her incredibly awkward interview on The Project

Delta Goodrem addressed her awkward appearance on The Project last week during an interview on The Kyle & Jackie O Show on Monday.

The 36-year-old singer had stumbled over her words after being asked about sexual harassment in the music industry last week.

But Delta claimed her flustered response to the question had been because she couldn’t hear what the show’s panelists were asking her.

‘I didn’t actually hear exactly what the exact question was, and I was sort of processing,’ she explained.

Delta told radio hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson that she’d appeared on The Project ‘on a link’, which had made it hard for her to hear.

Kyle, 49, said that people had accused Delta of trying to cover something up after the uncomfortable interview, but he assured listeners: ‘Delta’s not a cover-upperer.’

The Paralyzed singer was asked point blank about rampant sexual harassment in the Australian music industry during a candid interview on The Project on Thursday.

Delta was left stunned and unsure about how to respond after being asked if she was ‘shocked’ to hear about the startling statistics.

Project panelist Kate Langbroek told Delta that around ’96 per cent’ of women in the music industry had experienced sexual harassment while at work.

‘Nobody deserves to feel unsafe in the workplace, and my heart completely breaks to hear that figure,’ Delta responded.

But Kate, 55, continued to push the topic, and asked Delta if she was surprised by the terrifying figure, leaving the Born to Try hitmaker lost for words.

‘Does it surprise me? Listen, I only know… Does it surprise me? Does it surprise me? I, uh, I am shocked by that number,’ she fumbled.

‘It’s completely surprising, and my heart completely… My heart is… You know, that really hurts my heart to hear that, and I continue to support and be there for the community and my girls.’

A visibly emotional Delta then tapped her chest and added: ‘And, I, uh, yeah, it’s definitely very troubling.’

Fellow panelist Lisa Wilkinson then interjected and spoke about her recent interview with singer Deena Lynch, also known by her stage name, Jaguar Jonze.

In the interview, which aired during Tuesday’s episode, the 29-year-old claimed she’d been sexually harassed by two music producers early on in her career.

‘They straight away just went for it… grabbing me, being very sexual towards me…’ Jaguar recounted in a candid interview.

She added: ‘I verbally, constantly was saying, “No, no, no. I do not want to do this.”‘

Lisa, 61, asked Delta how she felt to see other women in the music industry ‘pushing back’ against that sort of behaviour.

Delta said she thought it was ‘incredibly important for women to share their story, and to speak from their heart and their experience’.

Describing it as ‘incredibly powerful’, she added that by speaking up, other women would ‘feel safe to be able to speak and to be able to step forward’.

'It's completely surprising, and my heart completely... My heart is... You know, that really hurts my heart to hear that, and I continue to support and be there for the community and my girls,' commented Delta
