Optical illusion in Matt Damon’s photo sends fans into a frenzy

At the height of fame! Bizarre detail in an excitable Brisbane pub manager’s photo with Matt Damon photo sends fans into a frenzy online

He’s the Hollywood icon who has been living in Australia with his family since January.

And while fans were elated to see Matt Damon enjoy a typically Aussie schooner at a Brisbane pub on Friday, a picture of the movie star shared by bar manager Andrew Potter left many scratching their heads.

In a photo posted by The QA Hotel, Matt, 50, was seen standing next a beaming Andrew – but Matt’s position seemed to create an optical illusion.

Sparking conversation: Matt Damon headed to a Brisbane pub on Friday, but this picture left many fans scratching their heads. Pictured with pub manager Andrew Potter

The vertical stripes on the floor appeared to show Matt standing on his tip-toes next to the beaming gentleman, with a shadow underneath his foot suggesting this is the case.

Yet at second glance, it appears the Jason Bourne actor is simply standing flat on the floor.

At any rate it appears Matt had a whale of a time at the bar, arriving at 10am for a drink and a flutter before his surprise appearance at a charity lunch.

Andrew said Matt arrived right as he was opening the venue for the day.

‘We’d just opened the pub. A man was having trouble with the Covid sign-in app so I went over to assist. As soon as I got over there I could see who it was,’ he said.

‘He said he was going to a meeting. They wanted to have a quick punt and a beer. He was really friendly.’

Mr Potter added: ‘Once word got around that Matt Damon was in the pub, the girls came rushing down from the function rooms upstairs. They asked for photos and he was very obliging.’

Drinking earlier in the day is considered more socially acceptable in Australia than America, which has an unofficial ‘five o’clock’ rule that states alcohol should only be consumed after work hours.

Matt had decided to stop by the pub before he and his wife, Luciana Barroso, 45, made a surprise appearance at a charity luncheon in Brisbane.

The event raised funds for domestic violence charity Safe Haven, to which the Ocean’s Eleven star personally donated $10,000.
