Vernon Kay wins battle to demolish ‘illegal’ £80,000 bungalow near £1.2million mansion

Vernon Kay has won his campaign for an ‘illegal’ bungalow near his country mansion to be demolished after a council slapped an eviction notice on the family living there.

The Game of Talents TV host has led the fight against the property on the same road as the six-bedroom Buckinghamshire home he shares with wife Tess Daly and daughters Phoebe and Amber.

Vernon, 47, has been complaining for years that the dwelling was built without planning permission at the end of their exclusive road for the family of the owner of a nearby timber yard, Timberstore Ltd.

The two-bedroom bungalow home was built in 2014 without the required permission and is 1,000 feet down the road from Vernon.

Documents show the TV star has demanded Buckinghamshire Council take action against the houses.

In an objection to the application to certify the bungalow as legal, Vernon said: ‘It is in the best interest of the council to use this application to now pursue the complaints further from the residents.

‘The development is also on the Green Belt and should not be permitted.

‘We understand this is a retrospective planning application but since the council were not able to pursue the complaints from the residents four years ago this application should be refused.’

Buckinghamshire council has now has slapped the bungalow’s owners with an eviction notice so that the building can be knocked down.

The enforcement notice reads: ‘Cease the residential use of the land. Demolish or dismantle the building occupied as a dwelling and incidental structures. Remove from the land all paraphernalia that has been brought onto the land in connection with the unauthorised material change of use and all debris and materials.’

Following reports last week of Vernon’s objections, several posters have appeared branding him a ‘Northern NIMBY’ – a term for people who object to developments near where they live.

The posters also made references to a sexting scandal in which Vernon was exposed for sending sexual messages to a glamour model.

Timberstore Ltd told the Bucks Free Press that the situation had escalated when ‘apoplectic NIMBY Vernon Kay’ called their director Ian Caldwell late on May 6 to ‘demand the removal of an amusing caricature’.

They added: ‘Vernon (in his six bedroom mansion on the same road) has been leading the fight against hard working employee and his family who have been living the bungalow.’

Neighbours of Vernon and Strictly presenter Tess, 52, near Beaconsfield, Bucks, have also raged against the house, wanting the families to be evicted.

Martin Gardener said: ‘The proposed development is an unnecessary intrusion into the local countryside and an attempt by developers to get a foot-in-the-door in this area.

The couple paid more than £1.5million for a property nearby and applied for permission to demolish it in favour of a more efficient home, but objections from neighbours forced them to scrap the plans

‘We already have people living illegally on the site to the south of the proposal.

‘The council needs to evict from the adjacent site and enforce the fact that neither of these plots have residential permission.’

And Manjit Bhambra blasted: ‘As residents we have complained about use of this plot for the last few years.

‘As a result of this building the owner has decided to erect another two buildings adjacent as no one takes a stand.’

The owner Timberstore Ltd has appealed against Buckinghamshire Council’s enforcement action to the Planning Inspectorate and also the rejection of the certificate of lawfulness.

This is not the only planning row Vernon and Tess have found themselves mired in.

The couple bought another house nearby for £1.5million, that they planned to tear down and replace with a modern and energy efficient home.

They were granted planning permission for their dream home, but protests from neighbours forced them to cancel the project.

The TV presenters recently flogged the pad for £1.7 million making a £200,000 profit.

The couple wed in 2003, and often share snaps on social media of their stunning mansion.

They love walks through the nearby countryside with daughters Phoebe and Amber, and their lovable pooch Mickey.
