Janelle Monae has inked on to appear in mystery sequel Knives Out 2, which stars Daniel Craig and is written and directed by Rian Johnson.

The Kansas City native, 35, joins Dave Bautista and Edward Norton in the sequel to the 2019 motion picture, according to The Hollywood Reporter

Netflix has acquired the rights to two sequels in a deal estimated to be in the $469 million range, a record for streaming services amid the changing times, according to the outlet.

The latest: Janelle Monae has inked on to appear in mystery sequel Knives Out 2, which stars Daniel Craig and is written and directed by Rian Johnson. She was snapped in Paris last year 

Monae acknowledged the casting with four emojis of knives in response to the outlet’s tweet about her appearing in the movie.

The film’s production is slated to kick up in Greece this summer, and Johnson will produce the movie with Ram Bergman.

Johnson told the outlet that he started writing the sequel after the release of the initial movie.

‘We had so much fun doing this,’ the director told ET in 2019. ‘If we could get together every few years and do a new Benoit Blanc mystery … just do, like, a new cast, new location, new mystery about a whole new set of things, I think that would be a blast.’

Craig will again play detective Benoit Blanc in the movie; the original featured an ensemble cast including Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, LaKeith Stanfield and the late Christopher Plummer.

The initial Lionsgate movie was a critical and commercial success, garnering $311.4 million worldwide off a $40 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo, and receiving an Oscar nomination for Johnson for Best Original Screenplay.

The actress-singer last year appeared in films including the horror movie Antebellum and The Glorias. Among her most notable performances include the lauded 2016 films Hidden Figures and Moonlight.

The Grammy-nominated artist also presides as CEO over her multimedia company, Wondaland Arts Society.
