Gina Rodriguez realizes her daughter may hold the key to saving the world from a bizarre apocalyptic event in the first trailer for Netflix‘s Awake.
The 36-year-old actress portrays Jill, a former soldier caring for her daughter when a global event wipes out all electricity on the planet, while also eliminating humanity’s ability to sleep.
She ultimately begins to realize that her daughter may be the key to Earth’s survival when she learns that the daughter can sleep.

The trailer begins with Jill trying to get some sleep, but she can’t, as she goes and sits next to her son Noah, who says he’s not tired.
He points out all of the ‘shooting stars,’ but Jill says they’re not shooting stars, but satellites instead.
Jill is then seen driving Noah and her daughter Matilda (Ariana Greenblatt), who closes her eyes in the back seat, and instantly the car completely dies.

Murphy reveals that, ‘our survival depends on her,’ as Matilda is given some anesthesia and put to sleep as Murphy says, ‘Let’s get to work.’
Awake, which also stars Barry Pepper and Frances Fisher, debuts on Netflix worldwide starting June 9.
