Justin Theroux joins costar Logan Polish for a screening of The Mosquito Coast

He’s taking over the role originated by Harrison Ford in his under appreciated 1986 drama The Mosquito Coast.

And Justin Theroux, 49, showed off his rugged movie-star looks on Friday evening when he was joined in Queens, New York City, for a screening of his new Apple TV+ series by his costar Logan Polish, 19, who stars as his on-screen daughter.

The actors were helping to boost an awards-consideration screening held at a drive-in movie theater due to the ongoing pandemic.

Justin looked stylish in a mostly black ensemble highlighting his velvet blazer, which featured stylish peaked lapels.

Under it he wore a slim black sweater over a white T-shirt that peaked out slightly.

The American Psycho actor completed his look with black jeans and shiny black leather boots.

He also seemed to have kept the rugged yet well-kept beard he sports in the series.

Logan, who plays the daughter of Justin’s character on the show, apparently got the same memo about dressing in all black.

She wore a thick black top that was buttoned all the way up and featured sleeves that stopped halfway down her forearms.

The actress matched it with black slacks and wore a low-key set of white flats with it.

Although her character has jet black hair in the series, she wore it in a blond bob.

To celebrate the screening, Justin posted some throwback photos on Friday from the start of the production in Stockton, California, even though it shifted to Mexico for the remainder of the series.

‘FBF to The first day on the set of The Mosquito Coast (w Kuma natch),’ he wrote, while jokingly reminding fans to ‘set your VCRs!’ ahead of its Apple TV+ premiere in one week.

He was pictured leaning against a pickup truck while wearing a blue jumpsuit, while Gabriel Bateman, who plays his on-screen son, set on the edge of the pickup bed.

His trusty dog Kuma also got to come to set, and the beautiful gray pooch even got to sit in his chair on set between takes.

Justin has a family connection to The Mosquito Coast, as the original 1981 novel was written by his uncle, the acclaimed writer Paul Theroux.

The legendary director Peter Weir adapted the novel into the 1986 film of the same name, starring Harrison Ford in the lead role with Helen Mirren and River Phoenix also featured.

The movie received mixed reviews from critics and was one of Ford’s lowest-grossing films, but he remained a defender of it for years to come, and later critics have reappraised it.

Justin, who also works as a screenwriter occasionally, is now starring in a series adaptation of the novel in the lead role, which has loose autobiographical elements from his uncles live.

The trailer for the series, released earlier this month, paints Justin as the ‘brilliant inventor and radical idealist’ Allie Fox, who escapes modern life in the United States to take his family down to Mexico.

He seems to be pursued by the feds and local police for a crime that is kept mysterious, though his daughter (Polish) is shown conversing with an FBI agent over the phone in the trailer.

‘I think he just wants everything off his back and by proxy, his family’s too,’ Justin explained to Vanity Fair earlier this month.

‘We probably saw elements of this guy a lot during the pandemic, when everyone fled New York and wanted to buy a place upstate. He’s the one that takes it just that much further. I think he’s slightly embittered by not being recognized.

‘Maybe that’s just his ego. The way his life has treated him makes him go, “That’s it, we’re striking out. We’re going to cross the border and throw a grenade over our shoulder, because America is done.”‘

The show is believed to be a quasi-prequel to the original novel, though few details have been released about its plot so far.

Underappreciated: The film is a quasi-prequel to the novel and the 1986 Peter Weir film, which starred Harrison Ford and was a box office bust; still from The Mosquito Coast
