NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes says newborn daughter was key to him getting vaccinated: ‘It was more of a personal decision with having a baby girl’

Patrick Mahomes says that he’s been vaccinated, and that his baby daughter Sterling Skye Mahomes was the key in taking care of things in short order.

‘To me, it was more of a personal decision with having a baby girl and knowing that I was going to be around people,’ the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, 25, said in a news conference Monday. ‘I wanted to make sure I could do whatever I could to help keep her healthy.’

Mahomes, who welcomed the child in February with fiancée Brittany Matthews, said he believes the decision to get the vaccine is ‘a personal decision for everybody,’ adding, ‘Whatever you believe, I think you can do whatever that is.’

Mahomes, who signed a 10-year, $503 million contract extension last year, also opened up on his first two months of parenthood, in speaking with the media.

‘I’ve had to learn a lot there, probably more than I’ve learned in my entire life till now of how to take care of a baby and raise a little baby girl,’ he said, according to KMBC.

NFL officials earlier this month told teams that Tier 1 or 2 staffers ‘should be expected to be vaccinated unless they have a bona fide medical or religious ground for not doing so.’

Employees that those who pass on getting the shots without the exemptions ‘will not be permitted access to the “football only” restricted area and may not work directly or in close proximity with players,’ the league said.

Mahomes has played in the past two Super Bowls as one of the league’s fastest-rising talents, also updated reporters on the status of his injured toe and how his offseason program is progressing.

‘You just have to find different ways to improve, there are so many different things I can improve in my game,’ he said, according to NFL.com. ‘Being able to kind of restart and start from injury with the feet, I can really improve my footwork and try to make myself better.

‘I’ve dealt with ankle injuries in my career and being able to teach myself how to hit the right spots in my feet, by teaching myself just how to get back from this injury I think will help me out in the long run and something that I can really focus on.’
