Alexandra Burke says Meghan Markle’s Royal family racism claims make her ‘sick to her core’

Alexandra Burke felt ‘sick to her core’ after hearing Meghan Markle‘s claims that a member of the Royal family expressed concerns over the colour of son Archie’s skin.

The X Factor winner, 32, was speaking during an appearance on Monday’s Lorraine when talk soon turned to Prince Harry and Meghan’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired in the US overnight.

Alexandra told how as a black woman she felt ‘sick’ at hearing Meghan’s words, stating her shock that ‘we’re in 2021 and still having these conversations’. 

Meghan, 39, used her bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview to accuse the Royal Family of having ‘concerns’ about ‘how dark’ Archie’s skin would be before he was born because she is mixed-race and Harry is white. 

The Duchess of Sussex also described her ‘pain’ that officials had denied Archie the title of prince and accused Buckingham Palace of failing to protect him by denying him 24/7 security.

Meghan refused to say which royal had the conversation with Harry about Archie’s skin colour, claiming it would be ‘damaging’ to the person in her husband’s family who raised it. 

Discussing the interview, Alexandra told Lorraine, 61: ‘I’ve seen the clips and all the headlines. It’s heartbreaking and very disappointing. 

‘We’re in 2021 and still having these conversations. For me as a black woman hearing that, it made me feel sick to my core. 

‘I’m an ambassador for the Royal Commonwealth Society, I’m a small voice there, and this shows we have a lot of work to do.’

Going to to share her support for the Duchess, Alexandra continued: ‘It’s shocking Meghan had to go through that. 

‘Hearing her say she was suicidal and talking about mental health, it’s mind-blowing. 

‘I wish them both the best and hope they can find peace and happiness in their lives for their sake and their children as well.’ 

Meanwhile, Alexandra also discussed her appearance in the Great British Bake Off Stand Up To Cancer special, in which she says she was attacked by wasps. 

Explaining how judge Paul Hollywood came to her recuse, she said: ‘I keep calling it wasp gate. 

‘My position in the tent, there was a lot of wasps distracting me and Paul decided he was going to be my saviour in trying to get rid of them. 

‘We got rid of a few, Prue helped as well. You’re going to see me running away from wasps a lot.’

Discussing her reasons for taking part in the show, she went explained: ‘It’s for such a great cause, Stand Up To Cancer. 

‘We’re never too far from someone. It was just amazing to be a part of it for those reasons.’

Of her experience on the show, she said: ‘I’m a fan of baking and a fan of the show. I’ve got some skills, not the best skills, but I take it from my mum. I loved it, it was a great experience.’
