Kerry Washington is chic in a plaid suit as she honors Joe Biden’s inauguration

Kerry Washington pulled out all the stops to craft a stylish yet reserved ensemble to celebrate the inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th president.

The 43-year-old actress joined other celebrities on the Celebrating America broadcast to mark the transition of power while showing off her elegant blue and gold suit.

Earlier, Washington gave her 6.3 million Instagram followers and advanced look at the classy ensemble.

Washington looked chic in her double-breasted suit coat, which was covered in a gold and navy blue pattern.

The coat featured striking silky blue lapels, and she paired it with a matching set of slacks.

She added some extra flair with a set of pointy brown leopard-print heels, and she wore her raven locks tied back in a mass of voluminous curls.

The Django Unchained star rounded out her Instagram post with a closeup of her chest and her crimson nails, which were decorated with red, white and blue stars and the Biden/Harris campaign logo.

The actress made a statement with her ensemble by choosing the Black female designer Autumn Adeigo to design her outfit.

Washington’s business-chic ensemble was likely a reference to her stylish character Olivia Pope, a Washington fixer who runs a crisis-management firm catering to the president on her ABC drama Scandal.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the usually lavish inauguration celebrations had to be significantly cut down for the safety of performers and guests.

In place of the balls that the new president would normally attend, the Biden Inaugural Committee launched a program called Celebrating America, which featured musical performances and celebrity appearances to mark the new administration and the end of Donald Trump’s administration.

Tom Hanks hosted the ceremony, while Bruce Springsteen was among the high-profile musicians performing.

Washington appeared about 50 minutes into the evening program with a short video filmed in front of a tree, in which she wore her blue and gold suit.

‘This day has been a long time coming,’ she began on a victorious note as she serenaded newly installed Vice President Kamala Harris.

‘Ground-breaking women have fought for their dreams and carved the path, and now Kamala Harris is the first Black and South-Asian woman vice president of these United States.

‘She is the first, but she will not be the last. The future for girls everywhere is limitless. To celebrate this historic day, some extraordinary Broadway players have come together to provide inspiration,’ she said.

A group of theater stars, including B. D. Wong, Betty Buckley, Vanessa Williams, Laura Benanti and original Rent Broadway cast member Anthony Rapp took turns singing verses from the iconic tune Seasons Of Love from Rent.

Though it was stripped down compared to previous years, the inauguration ceremony earlier in the day still featured show-stopping performances from Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez.

Gaga was on hand to sing The Star-Spangled Banner, while Lopez sang the Woody Guthrie classic This Land Is Your Land.
