Romain Grosjean’s car explodes into a fireball as he crashes into the barrier on lap one of the Bahrain Grand Prix… but he is miraculously able to walks away with burns to his legs

Romain Grosjean has been involved in a sickening crash in the early stages of the Bahrain Grand Prix, which resulted in his car bursting into flames.

The Haas racer smashed into the barrier on the first lap of the circuit, but thankfully was able to clamber from the wreckage and receive attention from medical personnel.

The race was immediately red flagged after the horror incident to allow the medical services to rush to the scene. 

Grosjean’s car struck the tire barrier on the exit at Turn Three and alarmingly caught fire. 

Horrifying footage of the crash showed the 34-year-old’s vehicle split into two. Grosjean was seen moving across Daniil Kyvat and careering straight into the barrier 

The driver was able to scramble away from the wreckage and brave medics were also swiftly on hand to help him escape.

Reports have suggested that Grosjean has suffered burns to his leg. 

The official Haas F1 Twitter account confirmed that the Frenchman was able to get out of his car, and described his condition as ‘OK’.

They soon added: ‘Romain is in the medical car and will be taken for assessment.’

The drivers were forced to return to the pits while stewards cleared away the debris and patched up the smashed barrier.
