Nicole Kidman reveals she won’t let her children join Instagram

Nicole Kidman has revealed she won’t let her younger children join Instagram during an interview on Tuesday’s edition of Loose Women.

The actress, 53, who shares daughters Sunday, 12, and Faith, nine, with her husband Keith Urban, admitted her little girls are ‘chomping at the bit’ to be on social media, but confessed she’s restricted them as she’d struggle to monitor technology.

Describing motherhood as ‘joyful’, the screen star said she aims to ‘guide’ her kids while avoiding to fall into the trap of being a ‘helicopter parent’.

The thespian, who also shares her adopted children Isabella, 27, and Connor, 25, with ex-husband Tom Cruise, spoke to panellists Nadia Sawalha, Stacey Solomon, Janet Street-Porter and Linda Robson via live link about her biggest worry as a mum.

Insisting she’s apprehensive about introducing Sunday and Faith to social media, Nicole explained: ‘The technology. I’m not very techy myself. It’s very hard for me to monitor it and stay on it.

‘I won’t let them be on Instagram.. I have a 12-year-old right now who is chomping at the bit and wants to get into all of that. It’s just that constant push, pull. I’d say a lot of parents would say the same thing.’

The TV and film star went on to detail what she prioritises when it comes to raising her daughters: ‘I think it’s keeping their confidence and their self-esteem intact.

‘And still guiding them, not being overbearing, trying not to ‘helicopter parent’. Allowing them to make mistakes and fall down and not trying to sort of absorb that pain.

‘There are so many things. But it’s a joy, it’s a joy having these beautiful little women that are growing up and I’m discovering them day by day. I love it.’

While the media personality has a close relationship with her younger girls, it has been widely reported that she has been estranged from her adoptive children Bella and Connor since she divorced fellow actor Tom, 58, in 2001.

Bella and Connor, like their father, are members of the Church of Scientology.

Elsewhere in the discussion, Nicole gushed about her ‘mellow’ husband Keith, 53, who she credited for being a strong support system while in the spotlight.

The Aquaman star said: ‘I try not to read too much about myself. I just try to let it all just drift off. I live with a man who is really mellow. He always can compartmentalise things and go, ”Don’t worry about that”.’
