The next Tiger King? Today host Karl Stefanovic is ‘in talks’ with Netflix to make a documentary series about ‘quirky’ Australians

He’s known for his cheeky sense of humour on Channel Nine’s Today show.

And if industry rumours are to be believed, Karl Stefanovic will soon be expanding his portfolio into making documentaries.

Karl, 46, is currently ‘in talks’ with Netflix after pitching a Tiger King-inspired factual series about ‘quirky’ Australian characters, The Australian reports.

While it’s unclear if Karl will be in front of the camera or working behind the scenes, he’s said to be excited about the possibility of partnering with Netflix.

It comes after it was revealed that actor Chris Hemsworth had signed a four-movie deal with Netflix, which will inject millions of dollars into the Australian film industry.

Karl and Chris both share the same agent, Mark Morrissey.

Karl’s contract with Nine, which expires in late 2023, allows him to take on side projects, something Mr Morrissey is believed to have insisted upon.

The news comes just days after Karl stripped off on live TV for a lighthearted spray tan segment.

Armed with a spray tan gun, Today co-host Allison Langdon appeared very eager to start the process, saying: ‘I’ll just wing it!’
